E.E. & Brian Smith always visits its suppliers around the world. Last week we went to Huelva in Spain with one of our customers to see Iberfruta, a long-standing supplier to E.E. & Brian Smith.
We spent most of our time visiting 5 different Strawberry growers in the region to see how the season is progressing. This year the crop is late due to the cold weather which Spain had earlier this year and is running 3 to 4 weeks behind. Currently it is looking like an average crop for this year’s harvest.
While visiting, we also spent time discussing water availability in the Doñana region as this is under lots of stress. Efficiency in water usage is key moving forwards which the suppliers are now very good at implementing on their farms.
It was a good, informative visit and we look forward to returning soon for the Apricot and Peach crops.
