With this wet and colder weather Autumn has arrived here in the UK.
One food which we often associate with Autumn is Apple. Apples have a wide range of uses in UK food production including in Jams, Drinks, Desserts, Smoothies and Bakery.
This year the total Apple crop production inside the EU has decreased by around 12% this season owing to adverse weather and poor pollination during the blossom. The main countries in Europe which have seen a decrease in volume are Hungary, Germany and Poland. Poland is Europe’s largest producer of Apples, and the crop is around a 20% down on last year which is 25% down on a 3-year average.
Volumes available for industrial processing are expected to be 15-18% lower this coming season compared to last year.
With the Apple crop being short this year it is important this year that any Apple products you need this year are booked within the season which will run until the end of November.
